Introduction

Di Mase Architects is a local architectural practice based in inner-city Melbourne, Australia. For over 6 years, Di Mase Architects has brought a unique approach to projects as diverse as the Princes Hill Bocce Pavilion, numerous domestic refurbishments of Victorian,Federation and Edwardian homes, the transformation of an old mechanics workshop into an organic food hall in Brunswick, beautiful new homes, and landscape projects as well as many public and community projects. Di Mase Architects is known for its finely detailed work, creative approach to difficult sites and design driven philosophy.

Business Scope

Di Mase Architects’ consultative approach ensures that the needs of our clients are intimately understood. Committed to sustainable architectural practice, Di Mase Architects’ environmental philosophy means that every client is kept fully informed on design decision that seeks to minimize the impact to the environment. A celebration of human activity and experience, good design should be challenging and inspiring, engaging the public while responding to the way people work and live. At Di Mase Architects, much of what we do is about opportunism rather than imposing a set idea - making the most of each project, revealing the qualities of each site, and creating architecture relevant to people’s lives.

Speciality and strengths

Di Mase Architects is characterised by the ability to adapt to unique design problems, rather than a specific project type. It is the philosophy of good design that links our projects, be they commercial, institutional or residential. Di Mase Architects’ experience in the re-use of buildings has given the practice practical skills in working within existing infrastructure and constraints – we combine a respect for the original with a contemporary vision for the future.

Di Mase Architects specialises in small well-detailed architecture with the ability to work within the confines of a larger context respecting and enhancing the qualities of the overall. We have a collaborative approach to architecture, working both on our own and with other architects to create a detailed resolution to the project. Our work is typically characterised by small intrusions into the urban framework or existing buildings, adding a new dimension to the streetscape, existing building and complex. Detailed design, functionality and resolution contribute to the overall effect. As a medium sized practice, Di Mase Architects has both the flexibility to respond quickly to clients’ needs and the experience to deliver a refined and beautifully detailed result.
